Applications

1. Industrial and Chemical Fields

• Acid Regulator / Substitute Acid: It can replace highly corrosive acids such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. It is used for metal surface cleaning (removing oxide films and rust), boiler scale removal, or adjusting the pH value of the system in chemical reactions to reduce operational risks.
• Catalyst: It serves as an acidic catalyst in organic synthesis reactions (such as esterification and etherification reactions) to promote the progress of the reaction. The product is easy to separate, which reduces side reactions.
• Ion Exchange Resin Regeneration: It is used for regenerating cation exchange resins. Through the H⁺ ions it provides, the metal ions adsorbed on the resin are replaced, restoring the exchange capacity of the resin. This is common in water treatment systems.

1. Metal Processing and Electroplating Industries

• Metal Pretreatment: Before electroplating and spraying, metal workpieces are soaked in a sodium bisulfate solution to remove oil stains and oxide layers on the surface, making subsequent coatings or platings firmer and more uniform.
• Component of Electroplating Bath: In some electroplating processes, it can be used as an auxiliary electrolyte to adjust the acidity and ion concentration of the electroplating bath, improving the quality of the plating (such as enhancing gloss and reducing pinholes).
• Food Industry
• Acidity Regulator: It is used in foods such as canned foods, fruit juices, and beverages to adjust the taste acidity, or as an auxiliary component of preservatives (the acidic environment can enhance the effect of preservatives).
• Component of Leavening Agent: When mixed with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), it can be made into a compound leavening agent. When heated, it reacts to produce carbon dioxide, making foods such as pastries and bread fluffy. It is common in the baking field.

1. Other Special Uses

• Laboratory Reagent: As an acidic reagent, it is used for pH adjustment and substance dissolution (such as dissolving some metal oxides that are insoluble in water) in chemical experiments, or as a raw material for preparing other sulfates.
• Auxiliary Component of Herbicides: It is added to some agricultural herbicides. By adjusting the local acidity of the soil, it enhances the herbicidal effect of the herbicide on weeds while reducing phytotoxicity to crops.
