Applications

I.Food Industry (Most Common)

• Preservation: Inhibits the growth of microorganisms and extends the shelf life of food. It is commonly used in fruit juices, canned foods, candied fruits, wine, etc.
• Color Protection: Prevents oxidative browning of processed fruits and vegetables (such as potatoes and apples) and maintains their original color.
• Bleaching: Performs mild bleaching on starches, sugar products, etc., to improve their appearance.
• Leavening Agent: Used in combination with baking soda as a component of leavening agents for biscuits, bread, etc.

 ‌II. Industrial Field

• Textile/Paper Making: Acts as a bleaching agent to remove pigments and impurities from fabrics or pulp.
• Water Treatment: Used to remove residual chlorine from water or as a reducing agent in wastewater treatment.
• Chemical Production: Serves as a reducing agent in various chemical reactions and is also used in the production of chemicals such as sodium hydrosulfite and sodium thiosulfate.

• Photography Industry: Used as one of the components in fixing solutions.
• Pharmaceutical Field: Used in small amounts as an antioxidant in pharmaceuticals to protect drug ingredients from oxidation.
